Helmer “Chuck” Charles Debee, 85, of Menomonie passed away at home Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018.
Chuck was born Sept. 8, 1932, to Helmer and Esther (Hansen) Debee. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1950 and on Sept. 19, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Helenmae Mense, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie.
He worked at Badger State Lumber (UBC) and retired from 3M in 1994. Chuck also served for Company A in Menomonie and worked part time for the Armory for the past 24 years. Chuck was a dedicated husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
Chuck enjoyed fishing, was a member of the Jaycees, transported for the eye bank and was a past president for the Lions Club. He was a lifelong member at Peace Lutheran Church, sang in the choir, was a member of the Men of Peace, served on the church council and was a past church council president and property committee member. Chuck played fast pitch and slow pitch softball for many years as well.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helenmae; daughter, Sue (Gary) Labs of Menomonie; granddaughters, Jamie Labs (Dan Smith special friend) and Lindsey (Pat) Banaszynski; and special great-granddaughter, Peyton “Toot” Banaszynski; sisters-in-law, Lois Debee and Geraldine Mense; and brothers-in-law, John Walker and Jim Mense; he is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Tommy and Timothy; four brothers, three sisters, one brother-in-law, and one sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Pastor Bob Friese officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the church on Wednesday at the church.
