MENOMONIE, DODGEVILLE, Wis. — Luther D. Johnson, 87, of Menomonie, formerly of Dodgeville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Comforts of Home in Menomonie.
He was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Highland Township, Iowa Co. Wis., to Lawrence and Alice (Peterson) Johnson. Luther graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1949.
On June 14, 1952, Luther married Joyce Husom in Dodgeville. They farmed west of town until 1962 when Luther became a carpenter for Singer Lumber company. After many years, he became self-employed and built many houses and did construction projects of various kinds. Luther was known as a skilled worker who worked hard every day.
Many knew Luther for his great singing voice. He shared his voice with the Grace Lutheran Church Choir for 60 years, and sang at many weddings and hundreds of funerals throughout his lifetime. He was a wonderful father to his children, a devoted husband to his wife of 65 years, and an engaging grandfather and great-grandfather. Luther enjoyed travel with his wife, family, and friends, including favorite trips to Norway.
Luther is survived by his sons, Mark Johnson (Kay Alberg) and Dave (Becky) Johnson; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville, with Pastor Mark Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery in Dodgeville. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
