Phyllis J. Holt (Dennis), 95, peacefully passed away at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center in Colfax Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017.
Phyllis was born to Henry and Florence (Holstein) Dennis in Menomonie June 24, 1922, one of eleven children. She grew up in a farming community, attended and graduated from Menomonie Schools.
Throughout her life, Phyllis was a very strong and independent woman. She was a passionate homemaker, an avid bird watcher, enjoyed her flowers and vegetable gardens and along with family and friends she also enjoyed playing cards and traveling to many parts of the country. She enjoyed spending time up north with friends and the annual fishing trip to Canada with family. She was a wonderful cook and was well known for many of her special recipes including her famous beet pickles and rhubarb pie. She especially enjoyed sharing holidays with family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie and actively involved in the church in many capacities. She worked for Menomonie Public Schools Food Service for many years. After retiring from food service, she then worked at Lakeview Floral and Greenhouse and Hallmark in Menomonie.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Dennis (Jeri) Holt of Elk Mound, Wis., Robert (Bonnie) Holt of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Debra (Ron) Verdon of Menomonie; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Freeman Holt; her parents; four brothers and four sisters.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. Rich, the staff of Autumn Village in Menomonie, WI and Colfax Health and Rehabilitation, Colfax, WI for the compassionate care and assistance to Phyllis and her family.
A memorial service will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 27, at Peace Lutheran Church, 917 7th St., Menomonie, with Pastor Bob Friese officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family.
