Robert “Bob” L. Schrader, age 94, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.
Bob was the first-born child, followed by four loving sisters to Carroll and Ruth (Schultz) Schrader. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1940 and was soon after employed by the Wisconsin Telephone Company.
In 1942 he was inducted into the U.S. Army as an infantryman and safely returned from the war with an honorable discharge in 1945. Before long, he found himself employed by the Parker Pen Co. in Menomonie where he worked until its closure in 1958.
In 1947, Bob met Ruth (Pat) Laberee and after a short courtship they married in January of 1948. To this union four children were born. In 1959, Bob and Pat bought a farm in Menomonie where they stayed until 1979. Subsequent to this they owned two more local residences before settling into their Tainter St. home in 1994.
After Pat’s passing in 2012, Bob eventually moved to the Autumn Village Assisted Living Facility in Menomonie. Bob will be sadly and greatly missed by his family and all who knew him for his wit and candor.
Bob is survived by two sons, Jim (Sue), David (Mary Jo); daughter, Marilyn Pitelka; grandsons, John (Hillary) Parsons, Tony (Alisa) Schrader, Seth Schrader, Ben Schrader, Michael (Kristin) Schrader, Andy (Mandy) Schrader, Timmy (Tracy) Schrader; granddaughters, Liz Green, Veronica Parsons, Brianna (Jason) Sheck, Allison (Brandon) Rupple; and nine great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by two sisters, Ruthie (Parnik) Hazarian, Carolyn (Ken) Homer; and brothers-in-law, John Hoffman and Bill Laberee.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife,Pat; son, Timothy; and sisters, Phyllis Arnette and Lois Hoffman; and brother-in-law, Pat Arnette.
The family extends its gratitude to the Autumn Village and American Lutheran Home facility staff and management for their part in Bob’s care over the past two and a half years.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Immediately following the service there will be an informal remembrance gathering at the VFW (The Great Escape) in Menomonie on 2909 Bongey Drive.
