A physical and verbal altercation on a bus returning to Elk Mound Middle School following a field trip Wednesday afternoon resulted in 13-year-old student being taken into custody by Dunn County deputies.
The juvenile suspect was set to appear in Dunn County Circuit Court Thursday where he was charged with making terroristic threats, battery
and disorderly conduct.
According to a media release from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, a report came in to the county’s E-911 Center around 4:30 p.m. of a threat that was made at the Elk Mound Middle School.
Investigation revealed that upon returning from a field trip, a 13-year-old student involved in the altercation on the bus made a threat regarding the possibility of a shooting that could take place at the middle school on Friday. Deputies went to a residence in the town of Elk Mound where they took the juvenile who made the comments into custody.
The information will be forwarded to the the Dunn County District Attorney’s Office and Department of Human Services for charges.
In addition to taking school safety seriously, the Sheriff’s Office takes a zero tolerance stance on threats of school violence. Extra patrol units will be posted in the area to reassure students and parents that they are in a safe environment.
