Jenna Welke, Linsey Thisius to serve as tennis captains

Senior Jenna Welke (Chippewa Falls) and junior Linsey Thisius (Wells, Minn) have been selected as captains of the UW-Stout women’s tennis team for the 2017-18 school year.

The tennis team will be the first Blue Devil team to host competition for the school year when open the fall season Sunday, Sept. 3 as they host a triangular with Lawrence University and Hamline University. Stout will open the season by meeting Hamline at 9 a.m., then will meet Lawrence at 3 p.m. at the South Courts. Hamline and Lawrence will meet at 12 p.m.

The Blue Devils lost a pair of varsity players to graduation last season, but return nine players from a team that moved up a spot in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

Welke will begin her fourth year as a varsity player for the Blue Devils. Thisius will begin her third year and last season was the team’s No. 1 singles and doubles player.

After a trip to UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Sept. 9, where the Blue Devils will meet the Blugolds in the conference opener and St. Benedict in a non-conference match, Stout will be at home for five consecutive home matches from Sept. 15 through Oct. 6.
