Blue Devils drop 4-1 decision to St. John’s
UW-Stout failed to convert on their power play and fell 4-1 in a non-conference contest to St. John’s University, Saturday at the Fanetti Community Center.
The Blue Devils (1-2-1) had seven power play opportunities and came up shot on all seven chances.
The Johnnies took a 2-0 lead at 9:14 of the second period. Twenty-two seconds later Stout got on the board to cut the lead to 2-1 when Lucas Carroll scored his first collegiate goal and the Blue Devils’ first shorthanded goal of the season, getting an assist from Conner Valesano.
Stout outshot the Johnnies 30-24, with St. John’s goalie Mac Berglove making 29 saves. Stout’s Evan Hauser took the loss with 20 saves.
Stout will be St. Olaf, Friday, Nov. 10 and at Gustavus Adolphus, Saturday, Nov. 11.
Blue Devils have opportunities, but can’t convert
UW-Stout had opportunities, but couldn’t take advantage and the Blue Devils lost 21-7 to UW-La Crosse Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Both teams played a little give-away. The Blue Devils threw four interceptions and the Eagles three.
Stout finished the game with 323 yards of total offense, 283 in the air, 40 on the ground.
Stout’s Jay Alston completed 7-of-20 passes for 176 yards. Sturgeon completed 4-of-13 passes for 44 yards and was intercepted once.
