Pointers run away from Blue Devils in fourth
UW-Stevens Point outscored UW-Stout 25-8 in the fourth quarter on their way to a 77-55 win over the Blue Devils Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Carly Cerrato hit eight of her game high 18 points in the fourth quarter, going 3-of-3 from the floor in the period, hitting two 3-pointers. The Pointers had four players score in double digits. Taylor Barrett scored 14, Lexi Roland 13 and Mickey Roland 12
Amber Fabeck led Stout with 12 and Bailey Diersen contributed 11. Kyncaide Diedrich, the league’s leading scorer (16.3 ppg) was limited to six points.
Stout shot 20-of-60 (.333) from the floor, while the Pointers hit 29-of-55 (.527) from the floor. Stevens Point was 7-of-11 from 3-point range, while Stout was 1-of-13 from beyond the arc.
Kleven notches game-tying goal, Zins in on both goals against Falcons
Joe Kleven scored the game-tying goal as UW-Stout came from behind to tie with at UW-River Falls, 2-2, Saturday at Hunt Arena.
Kleven scored the lone goal of the third period, scoring at 10:20 of the period. Kleven’s second goal of the season was assisted by Dylan Zins, who scored earlier to tie the game in the second period.
Both teams were whistled only once for a penalty apiece. Stout’s Tommi Ahlgren made 21 saves, while the Falcons’ Zach Quinn made 22 saves.
Stout earned the third seed in the WIAC Commissioner’s Cup and will play at UW-Eau Claire in a semi-finals series Feb. 23-24. The Falcons will be at UW-Superior Feb. 16-17 in a first round contest.
Blue Devils drop decision to first place Pointers
UW-Stevens Point (16-7, 10-2 WIAC) held a 10 point, 39-29 halftime lead over UW-Stout (8-15, 2-10 WIAC), then pushed the lead up to 15 points and never let Stout get any closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
Stout’s Isaac Elliott scored 19 points, as did the Pointers’ Canon O’Heron to lead all players. The Pointers’ Nate Dodge added 18 points and MJ Delmore tossed in 14 points.
Sam Ortmann contributed 13 points for Stout and Joe Duty tallied 11 points.
