Just three days after winning 13 regionals titles (including the boys’ team championship), Elk Mound’s track and field teams found a bittersweet surprise at Thursday’s Bloomer sectional

Just four boys and no girls qualified for next weekend’s WIAA Division 2 state track and field championships.

Freshman Jonah Bauer was the big winner for the Mounders earning two state qualifying spots.

Bauer was a member of sectional champion 4x200 team along with Ryan Bridges, Jordan Klemp and Andrew Zabel, which edged out Mosinee by .03 seconds with a time of 1:32.89.

Bauer also placed second behind Cameron senior Joe Koenecke in the 100, with a time of 11.03 seconds.
