The Menomonie High School girls’ swim and dive team finished 17th out of 37 teams at the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament Friday in Madison.
The Mustangs had qualified four swimmers and one diver to the State tournament, including a relay team.
The 200 yard freestyle relay team of freshmen Melody Greenwood, Kate Westphal, sophomore Regan Smith and senior Carissa Henderson competed Friday at Madison, finishing eighth out of 16 teams at State with a time of one minute, 41.74 seconds, shaving 1.7 seconds off of their seed time. Edgewood won the event at 1:36.26.
Henderson and Greenwood had both qualified to State in the 50 yard individual freestyle, where they finished eighth (24.88) and 10th (25.40), respectively. Alexandra Moderski, a junior at McFarland won the event at 22.91.
Henderson also competed in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing 10th (1:00.94). Mekenzie Hammer, a freshman at Monroe/New Glarus won at 58.22. This was Henderson’s fourth and final season representing Menomonie High School at the State Tournament.
In the one meter diving event, senior Jessica Coffin came in 15th out of 16 divers with a score of 320. Senior Nikki Benedict of Monona Grove won the event with a score of 481.20.
