Elk Mound sure knows how to keep fans on their toes.
A perhaps too-close-for-comfort matchup between Elk Mound and Cochrane-Fountain City saw the Mounders inch past the Pirates with a 46-44 victory Friday at Elk Mound High School.
The Mounders found themselves ahead by just one point at halftime at 24-23. With both teams nearly neck and neck on the inside and at the free throw line, it came down to the Mounders hitting two more 3-pointers than the Pirates to secure advancement to the regional final.
Allie Weber led the Mounders in scoring with 15 points, connecting on two 2-pointers, three 3-pointers and two freebies. Morgan Radtke followed up with 12 points, hitting all four of her free throws and connecting on four inside baskets. Crista Sweeney ended the night with 10 points, including three field goals and four points from the line.
Elk Mound made 11 2-pointers and went 12-for-17 from the line while Cochrane-Fountain City hit 13 2-pointers and went 12-for-15 at the line. Elk Mound won at the arc, sinking four 3-pointer to Cochrane-FC's two.
The Mounders met with the Panthers Monday at Durand High School for the regional championship.
