The Boyceville Bulldogs came up with three out of four wins Friday during the Cumberland duals at Cumberland High School.
The Bulldogs defeated River Falls 43-33, Cumberland 53-24 and Hayward-Northwood 59-21. They were defeated by Baldwin-Woodville 44-34.
“We were winning in two matches against Baldwin and got pinned in both,” Boyceville coach Jamie Olson said. “That was a very disappointing loss, but our kids bounced back and wrestled tough after that. ... Those are early season mistakes that we will work on and correct going forward.”
Brock Schlough, 160 pounds, Justin Malean, 170, Garrett Joles, 195, and Noah Novotney, 285, all went undefeated in all four matches for the Bulldogs.
“These four have been outstanding leaders in the room and that makes my job a lot easier when you have goal-oriented kids that can lead in the practice room,” Olson said.
Eli Swanson went 3-1 at 106 pounds, Nick Goodell and Jason Swanepoel went 2-2 and 1-3, respectively.
Five freshman made their debuts on the varsity team and included Trett Joles, Walker Retz, Nathan Stuart, Taylor Schmid and Nick Litomsky. Olson said Joles and Retz were dominate in their first set of matches, while Stuart went 2-2.
