Menomonie’s baseball team ran into a buzz saw on Tuesday when it lost both ends of a doubleheader at Carson Park to Eau Claire Memorial - 8-0 and 12-1.
“We faced two of probably best pitchers we’re going to face all year,” said Menomonie Coach Mike King of Memorial pitchers Jake Sparger and Dalton Roach, noting that his players don’t often see guys throwing 90 miles per hours, let alone two in one day.

AJ Naatz recorded the Mustangs’ only hit in game one - a first inning single.
Mitch Stai took the loss, striking out four batters in six innings, but giving up two walks, seven hits and two earned runs. He also hit two batters with pitches.

Game two went a little better for the Mustangs offensively, as they collected six hits and one run. But defensively, MHS continued to struggle, allowing 10 hits, three walks and eight unearned runs.
James Gates took the loss despite striking out seven batters in just under six innings.
“Our pitching was good in both games,” said King. “We, defensively, didn’t step up to the challenge.”
All five of Menomonie’s hits came from different batters, but Naatz led the team once again as his 1-for-3 performance included a double. Mitch Thomas also hit 1-for-3 and scored Menomonie’s only run of the day in the fourth inning on a single by TJ Roach. Also recording hits were Terriv Vavra (1-for-2) and Mitch Stai (1-for-3).
