Menomonie author and photographer David Tank will present a program about his popular Postcards from the Past books at the Menomonie Public Library on Sunday, March 18 at 1 p.m.

“A lot has changed in our community since the Menomonie and Dunn County Postcards from the Past books were published,” said Tank. “I thought it would be fun to revisit some of the scenes to see what’s changed.”

Tank takes vintage postcards and then reshoots the same scene today. The first “Postcards from the Past” book focused on Menomonie, with the second expanding into some of the other communities in Dunn County.

“Many of the original postcards are a century old, and you expect there to be changes in that amount of time,” Tank explained.

“But the community has continued to grow since the Postcards from the Past books came out just a couple of years ago, so I went out and reshot some of the pictures again.”

Tank added that the Menomonie book has been out of print for over a year, but that he recently discovered a small number of copies on a back shelf at the printer and will have those available at a special price at the March 18th program at the library.

The Dunn County, Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls editions of the Postcards from the Past books will also be available.
