RotaryFest will raffle a quilt special quilt this year, as a loving tribute to a special lady, UW-Stout Professor Jane Rosenthal Reynolds, who taught home economics at Stout for many years.
Reynolds was Stout's first Affirmative Action Officer in the 1970s. She was also an avid quilter, and was a long-time member of the Peace Work Quilters of Menomonie. She had begun the quilt, but never finished it before her death in 2004.
An ardent gardener, she had picked the colors of the quilt to mirror those in her flower garden. In her memory, the Peace Work Quilters finished the king/ queen-sized quilt, adding the backing and border, and naming it "Jane's Garden.” The Quilters then donated it to the Menomonie Sunrise Rotary Club to raffle off as part of the club's annual fundraiser, RotaryFest 2013.
The Peacework Quilters have been together for more than 20 years, gathering to create useful and needed quilts, continue an historical American craft, and support each other through the camaraderie of the group.
Raffle tickets for the quilt are available for $5 each or $20 for five, from any Sunrise Rotarian; and are also available at Stepping Stones, Dairy State Bank, Johnson's Motors, Big River Insurance and People's State Bank. The winner does not need to be present to win.
The quilt can be viewed this week at People's State Bank, March 25 at Big Rivers Insurance, and April 1 at Dairy State Bank - Oaklawn.
