Under leadership of Scott Mattison, a 1978 Chippewa Falls Senior High School graduate, the West Carroll High School of Mount Carroll, Ill., earned its first state championship this year. Mattison is the West Carroll choir director. The state championship is determined by the amount of points each school acquires at the Solo and Ensemble (individual competition) and Organization (whole group) contests held in the spring.

Mattison graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1983, and earned a master’s degree in 2007 from the University of Northern Iowa-Cedar Falls. He taught for four years at Mount Carroll and then five years at West Carroll (Mount Carroll, Savanna and Thomson combined). His parents are Harland and Audrey Mattison of Chippewa Falls.
