Chippewa Falls Chief of Police Wayne Nehring may be taking on double duty for a few months beginning in January.

He would serve as the Village of Lake Hallie’s interim police chief from January until a new chief is hired if the village and the city of Chippewa Falls approve an agreement.

The Village Board approved a preliminary agreement with the city of Chippewa Falls for the services Monday night.

The interim chief will be needed as current Chief Gale Haas announced his retirement mid-November. He is set to leave the first week of January, and the Village’s Police Commission does not intend to have a new chief start until sometime near March 1.
