A Chippewa Falls man was sentenced to 360 days in jail and four years of probation Wednesday after sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl, Chippewa County court records show.

Joseph R. Moldrem of 215 W. Columbia St. was found guilty of one count of third-degree sexual assault and one count of causing mental harm to a child, having pleaded no contest to both in October 2017.

The criminal activity occurred between Sept. 18, 2011 and Sept. 17, 2012, court records show. According to a criminal complaint, Moldrem assaulted the girl at an Island St. residence in Chippewa Falls.

Moldrem must not have unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18, must have no contact with the victim or her family, must cooperate with counseling or treatment, must report to jail on Jan. 31 and must pay $1,036 in court costs. Judge Steven R. Cray granted Moldrem work-release privileges for the duration of his sentence.
