The death of a 45-year-old Altoona man, Kyle Anderson, has been ruled as an accidental drowning.

Chippewa County Coroner Ron Patten made the ruling after an autopsy of Anderson on Saturday at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

“He just went into the water and drown,” Patten said.

Patten was reported missing after fishing on the Chippewa River on Sunday, Aug. 27. “Anderson was seen swimming from his boat just below the Lake Wissota Dam by subjects on the south shore, yelling for assistance,” Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk said earlier.

A search of the river proved unsuccessful. However, a passerby on Thursday afternoon saw Anderson’s body floating in water west of a bridge on Seymour Cray Sr. Boulevard in Eau Claire. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and the Chippewa Falls Fire Department participated in the recovery of Anderson’s body.
