Along with charges of robbery and battery, Andre J. P. Demers now faces a charge of felony escape-criminal arrest.

Demers, 21, of 318 W. Elm St., Chippewa Falls, was charged Wednesday in Chippewa County Court.

According to a criminal complaint, Demers was incarcerated at the Chippewa County Jail and had Huber work privileges, but he did not return on the evening of March 28.

Inmates who work with Demers said he told them he had a different ride back to the jail. The jail staff reported Demers as a Huber walkaway at about 10:30 p.m.

That same night, Demers apparently joined Nicholas T. Blisard in Bloomer, where the two are charged with beating and attempting to rob Donald Stoik, owner of the Main Street Cafe in Bloomer.

Demers was arrested a few days later at a relative’s home in Bloomer.

A $5,000 cash bond was set for Demers, with a condition he is not to contact Stoik. Demers will have an initial appearance in Chippewa County Court on Tuesday on the latest charge.
