A public hearing has been set for Feb. 13 on the reclamation plan for a proposal by Superior Silica Sands to more than double the size of its town of Auburn frac sand mine.

The public informational hearing will be at 7:30 p.m. in room 302 of the Chippewa County Courthouse, 711 N. Bridge St., Chippewa Falls.

“The currently permitted mine site covers approximately 200 acres. The proposed expansion would include an additional 275 acres for a total of 475 acres,” according to a public notice from the Chippewa County Department of Land Conservation and Forest Management.

The hearing will deal only with comments on the reclamation plan, which is available to view at the land conservation office in room 011 at the Courthouse. The plan can also be viewed on the department’s website: www.co.chippewa.wi.us.

Superior Silica Sands has offices in Fort Worth and Kosse, Texas. It filed the expansion request on July 31.

Superior Silica opened the mine in the summer of 2011.
