ROCHESTER, Minn.— Stephen Anthony Bowen, 62, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, after a long illness.
He was born July 18, 1955, to Melville and Marion (Houlihan) Bowen in Chicago, Ill. He grew up in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, and graduated from Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Ill., in 1973. He married Anne (Morton) Bowen in 1976.
He earned a Bachelors Degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in December, 1977. He began his engineering career in February, 1978, at Cray Research in Chippewa Falls, Wis. He retired in February, 2014, as Director of Engineering at the same company, which was then called SGI.
Steve enjoyed his career, and enjoyed his retirement. He was happiest, though, spending time with his children and extended family. His favorite hobbies were traveling, fishing, and cooking feasts outside in his smoker.
He is survived by his wife, Anne, of Rochester, Minn.; one son, Daniel (Tenley), of Jackson, Wyo.; one daughter, Amy (Austin) Vandergon of Seattle, Wash.; one grandson, Alden Vandergon of Seattle; seven brothers and sisters, Kevin (Katy), Dennis (Kathy), Thomas (Jeanne), Mary (Raymond) Vuillame, and Ellen (James) Riggio of the Chicago area, and Joseph (Leandra) and Michael of Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law, Lynn (Kent) Gorham of Cannon Falls, Minn.; and one brother-in-law, Joseph (Patrice) Morton, of Waterford, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration honoring his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Mayo Clinic.
