A woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident Monday night in Barron County.

Kathleen Smith, 64, of Rice Lake died at the scene of the crash, which was reported shortly before 9 p.m. on Highway 8.

According to the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, a truck driven by Gary Clark, 62, of Brandon was going south on 8th Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 8.

Clark’s vehicle struck a car driven by Smith. A passenger in the car, James Smith, 17, of Rice Lake, was taken to Cumberland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Clark was flown to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire. Upon his released, he was transported to the Barron County Jail on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

The crash closed down Highway 8 for four hours.

Pedestrian struck

Also in Barron County, a pedestrian was struck by a van Monday morning.

Jason Richie, 13, of Cumberland was getting the mail about 9:15 a.m. when he was struck by a van going east on Highway 48, according to the sheriff’s department. The van was driven by Edith Marek, 67, of Milltown.

Richie was flown to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis and is in serious but non-life threatening condition.
