Chippewa River

Dive and rescue teams and law enforcement are searching the Chippewa River for an Eau Claire man who went missing on the water Sunday.

A search continued Monday for an Eau Claire County man reported missing on the Chippewa River in Chippewa Falls.

On Monday evening, Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk identified the man as Kyle J. Anderson, 45, of Altoona.

Kowalczyk said the man’s girlfriend dropped him off at the river on Sunday so the man could go fishing. A cell caller at 1:41 p.m. Sunday reported a man was in the water after a boat capsized.

“Anderson was seen swimming from his boat just below the Lake Wissota Dam by subjects on the south shore, yelling for assistance,” Kowalcyzk said Monday evening.

The Chippewa Falls Fire Department then conducted a search and called in the Township Fire Department dive team for assistance.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ underwater robot is being used in the search, and the sheriff’s office is also using its drone. All rescue efforts on Monday were unsuccessful; efforts will resume Tuesday morning.
