Some layoffs will be made after Markquart General Motors dealerships in Chippewa Falls and Lake Hallie are merged as of Monday, Feb. 2.

“These reductions have been minimal and are necessary to reduce some duplicate positions as we combine our staffs,” a company press release said.

Markquart announced Monday the consolidation of its Buick, Pontiac, GMC and Cadillac dealership at 321 W. Prairie View Road in Chippewa Falls into Markquart Chevrolet in Lake Hallie.

The combined company, co-owned by Dave and John Markquart, will be called Markquart Motors. It will do business out of the Lake Hallie location on U.S. 53, and will sell Chevrolets, Buicks, Pontiacs, GMCs and Cadillacs.

The dealership will have a General Motors Goodwrench Parts and Service center, and an auto body center.

The company said it is the largest GM dealership in northwest Wisconsin, and over the last 17 years Markquart dealerships have been the top seller of new and used vehicles in northwest Wisconsin.

Customers will be able to work with many of the same sales and service personnel as they have before, the company said.

The company did not say what will happen to its building at 321 W. Prairie View Road in Chippewa Falls.
