Lyndsey Thorpe was one of the best throwers in all of Wisconsin during her time on the Stanley-Boyd track and field team.
In just her redshirt freshman season at the University of Minnesota, she seems poised to become one of the better throwers in all of the Big Ten Conference.
Thorpe has the 10th-best hammer throw on the season for the Gophers, tossing it 172-feet, 10-inches on April 24 at the Hamline Invite, good enough for third place at the event.
Thorpe also has three of the top 16 shot puts in 2013 for Minnesota. Thorpe’s best shot put so far this season was on April 20 at the Musco Twilight meet in which she had a toss of 43-feet, 9 3/4-inches, taking seventh place at the event.
While at Stanley-Boyd, Thorpe captured the 2011 WIAA Division 2 shot put state title with a toss of 43-feet, 8-inches — coming in just ahead of teammate and runner-up Shelby Mahr.
Thorpe was a three-time Western Cloverbelt Conference champion in the shot put and also holds the Stanley-Boyd school record in the shot put with a toss of 45-feet, 5-inches.
Cody getting work on the mound at Kentucky
Kyle Cody had no problems mowing down hitters while pitching for the McDonell baseball team.
He’s finding it a bit more challenging at the University of Kentucky, but he’s having success.
In seven starts and 12 appearances so far in 2013, Cody has a 3-2 record and a 5.49 ERA on the mound. He has 36 strikeouts, 11 walks and has given up 39 hits and 26 runs (24 earned) in 39.1 innings pitched.
The Wildcats are off to a 26-17 start, including a 9-12 mark in the SEC.
While at McDonell, Cody was named the 2012 Wisconsin Gatorade High School Player of the Year as a senior and was drafted in the 33rd round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Cody was a two-time state runner-up as a member of the McDonell baseball team and also played a large role on the Macks basketball team that advanced to the state tournament in 2012.
Jaquish playing large role on UW-Milwaukee pitching staff
After becoming a solid contributor for the UW-Milwaukee baseball team by the end of his freshman season, Justin Jaquish is stepping into an even larger role in 2013.
In 11 appearances on the mound for the Panthers this season, Jaquish has 1-2 record and a 3.86 earned run average — the third-best ERA on the team.
Jaquish has 17 strikeouts, 10 walks and has allowed 35 hits and 17 runs (13 earned) in 30.1 innings pitched.
UW-Milwaukee is out to a 20-16 start in 2013, including an 11-4 mark in the Horizon League.
A 2011 graduate of Chi-Hi, Jaquish was a Big Rivers Conference Co-Player of the Year his senior season and was named to the second team WBCA All-State team as an outfielder. Jaquish was also a member of the 2011 Chippewa Falls Post 77 American Legion team that won the AAA state title.
