BLOOMER — The Bloomer baseball team brought 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the first inning on its way to a 9-4 nonconference victory over McDonell on Tuesday afternoon in the season opener for both squads.
The Blackhawks (1-0) had eight straight runners reach base during the inning. Caleb Mikl had a two-run single while Brandon Faschingbauer and Adam Malinowski each had RBI singles and Mason Madsen and Sean Hurt drew bases-loaded walks to plate runs.
Bloomer added three unearned runs in the third inning before the Macks (0-1) would plate two runs apiece in the fifth and seventh.
John Barr finished 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Blackhawks. Austin Summerfield and Mikl each drove in two runs and Faschingbauer pitched three scoreless innings in the win.
Ryan Sorensen was 1-for-2 with three runs batted in and John Lyberg also drove in a run for the Macks.
McDonell and Bloomer each return to action on Friday with games at Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells.
Lake Holcombe/Cornell 6, Cadott 1
At Holcombe, the Knights scored twice in three different innings to score a nonconference victory over the Hornets.
Lake Holcombe/Cornell (1-0) plated two runs each in the first, second and fourth innings to help in the win.
Dominick Grimm had two hits and an RBI for Cadott (0-1).
Both teams return to action on Thursday as Lake Holcombe/Cornell plays at Winter and Cadott hosts Gilman.
Stanley-Boyd 2, Athens 1
At Athens, Zak Ingersoll had a strong game on the mound and at the plate in a win for the Orioles.
Ingersoll picked up the win on the mound, tossing a complete game 3-hitter while striking out two. He also was 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. Cole Ciokiewicz had two hits and Tanner Henderson was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Stanley-Boyd (1-0).
The Orioles play at Ladysmith on Thursday.
McDonell 12, Elmwood 0 (5 inn.)
At Elmwood, the Macks scored all 12 runs in the first three innings as they picked up a win in the season opener.
Liz Rietschel was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI for the Macks (1-0). Josie Verbick had two doubles, three runs batted in and a run scored, Laura Schwandt and Lisa Bremness each had two hits including one double each and combined for three runs batted in and Abby Opsal was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Megan Baier struck out six and allowed one run in five scoreless innings.
McDonell returns to action on Friday when they play at the Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells.
Regis/McDonell 5, Spooner 0
At Casper Park, Regis/McDonell outshot Spooner by a 32-1 margin in a victory.
Payton Swoboda scored two goals while Shelby Laffey, Esme Reinders and Anna Daniels each found the net as well for Regis/McDonell (1-0-1). Laffey added two assists and Aubree Hagen had one assist in the win.
Regis/McDonell plays at Somerset on Thursday.
