Jay Arnold Wagner, 77, of Menomonie passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Menomonie, surrounded by family.
Jay was born May 31, 1941, to Albert and Evelyn Wagner. He attended Shady Lawn Grade School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1958. He married Linda Goodman June 17, 1961, and they celebrated their 57th anniversary last year.
He worked for DHIA milk testing and Ken Grutt’s Oil Company before attending Stout State University and graduating with a BS in industrial education January 1968. He began teaching Machine Tools and Foundry at Chippewa Falls High School. He then achieved his Masters of Science in vocational education and became Department Chair and Vocational Coordinator in Industrial Arts for the school district. He later received a Post Graduation Certificate for School Administrative and became Assistant Principal at Chippewa Falls High School and then Principal for Chippewa Falls Alternative School before retiring in 1997. He also taught Drivers Ed for students and adults.
Jay was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed cheering them on with a big bowl of popcorn. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching his daughter’s grade school basketball team and led them into championships three years in a row. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, traveling, golfing, casinoing and visiting with friends and family. Everyone always said they could tell it was Jay by his voice and laugh as he enjoyed life. He will be dearly missed by all.
Jay is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Lora; sisters-in-law, Judy (Pete) Binder, Nancy (Al) Finder; nieces, Donna (Pat) McConnell, Amy (Mark) Hefestay, Becky Wagner; nephews, Peter (Nancy) Hillman, Steve Wagner; grandchildren, Chad (Amanda) Skjong, Lauren (Dustin) Minnaert; great-grandchildren, Karissa Skjong, Connor, Gabriel and Hadley Minnaert; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, LeRoy “Skip” Wagner.
Services will be Monday, March 4, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Friese officiating and a lunch to follow.
