William Uetz

ELK MOUNT — William “Bill” J. Uetz, 99, of Elk Mound died peacefully Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Menomonie surrounded by family.

Bill was born Dec. 8, 1919, to Frank and Ida (Gehrke) Uetz on the family farm five miles east of Menomonie. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1937 and married Norma Snittler June 30, 1941. They were married for 77 years. After marriage, they raised their family and farmed on the family farm until retirement. After retiring, they traveled to Seminole Florida for a number of winters.

Bill was active in the Menomonie Moose Lodge, St. Joseph Catholic Church, a founding member of the GMAC (Greater Menomonie Advisory Council) where they met daily at the Flat Top Cafe. He also thoroughly enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, 500 and Cribbage.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Norma; five sons, Dan (Lynda), Tom (Linda), both of Elk Mound John (Kim) of Knapp, Richard (Dawn) and Joe, both of Elk Mound; 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one sister, Marian Erickson of Oroville, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Claudine Uetz of Rockford, Ill.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a three year old son, Michael in 1956; one great-great-granddaughter, Savannah; and three brothers, John (Pat), Francis (Virginia) and David.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie with the Rev. John Mano officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
