On Sept. 18, the Air Force Association (AFA) held a celebration in Washington D.C. commemorating the founding of the Air Force 70 years ago. The award ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Air Force and other top Air Force officials in the Air Force. Among the majors, colonels and generals who were honored was Boyceville High School senior and Civil Air Patrol Cadet Captain Casey Owen who received the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Cadet of the Year Award — a rare accomplishment.

Owen was recognized for his use of a simple balsa wood glider to teach basic aeronautical principles of flight and for his volunteer work with the Boyceville Science Olympiad program. Recently, he and his parents, Jack and Kelly Owen, also traveled to Austin, Texas to received the Civil Air Patrol Frank G Brewer Aerospace Cadet of the Year.
