Hilkrest School

Volunteers are needed to spruce up Hilkrest School on the grounds of the Rassbach Museum near Wakanda Park in Menomonie.

As a part of National Preservation Month, the Dunn County Historical Society invites the public to take part in a Paint-a-thon to preserve the Hilkrest one-room school which sits on the campus of the Rassbach Heritage Museum.

The school served the children of Sherman Township until 1962. Children still come by the bus loads on field trips to experience what it was like to attend this one room rural school.

Here’s the schedule to help preserve a part of local history:

  • Saturday, May 19, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. — Prep the building
  • Saturday, June 9, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. — Prime the building
  • Saturday, June 16, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. — Paint the building

Although some will be available for use, bring scrapers for prepping and brushes for priming and painting. An extension ladder would also be welcome.

Come for an hour or stay a day ... or anything in between!

Contact Jan Theberge at 715-232-8685 for more information and to register for the Paint-a thon as a volunteer.
