A local man returned to his home around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 17 to find a stranger sleeping on his couch.
The man called the Menomonie Police Department to his apartment in the 1400 block of Second Street West. The officer who arrived recognized the sleeping man as Vincentarnor T. Filkins, with whom he had previously had other police contact.
The officer finally woke Filkins by yelling his name. Filkins told the officer he had been drinking and believed to be inside his own residence, which is located in the 1400 block of Second Avenue Southeast. The officer patted Filkins down and removed a knife he found on him. Filkins then cooperated in exiting the apartment. He was handcuffed and secured in the squad car where he then recorded a blood alcohol level of .243.
Transported to the Dunn County Jail, Filkins was charged with criminal trespassing and public intoxication. Nothing had been taken or damaged from the apartment.
Peeping Tom back again?
A suspicious person was reported to be lurking about in the 2000 block of Second Street West in Menomonie during the early morning hours of Dec. 11.
A man who had been shoveling snow in his driveway contacted the Menomonie Police Department to report the incident and told the officer he noticed fresh footprints in the snow that led to a neighboring house.
He notified the neighbor, who followed the footprints to a set of windows located on the north side of his house. The snow was packed down and it appeared the person had been outside the windows for an extended period of time.
Due to a recent snow dusting, the officer could not make out any tread detail or determine which direction the person had gone. The windows by the area the packed snow was found were part of the living room, where the wife of the neighbor is often sitting most mornings.
