The passengers in a white cargo van that pulled into Bloomer’s Southworth Chevrolet parking lot Wednesday morning weren’t interested in buying a car.
Something else caught their eye.
The thieves appeared between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. and made off with close to $30,000 in premium rims, said Grant Southworth, owner of the dealership.
Southworth and the Bloomer Police Department are seeking tips involving the incident.
All 24 of the rims were stolen from new Chevy Silverados, Suburbans, Tahoes, a GMC Yukon XL and a Redline Edition Chevy Silverado, Southworth said.
Thieves stealing rims isn’t common, Southworth said.
“It’s been a long time. Maybe 10 years ago someone stole a set of wheels, but we don’t run into that stuff in this area often. We have pretty good people around here,” he said.
Southworth did not know of any immediate suspects.
The incident could be connected to two incidents in late May in Menomonie, Southworth said.
On May 29, a set of rims and tires were stolen from a Menomonie dealership, according to a Facebook post from the Menomonie Police Department. Two days later, thieves stole tires and rims from three pickup trucks from a different dealership in the area.
Southworth asked the community to send tips to the Bloomer Police Department at (715) 568-5924. The dealership is offering a cash reward for information, he said.
Menomonie police asked those with information about the Menomonie incidents to call (715) 232-1283.
