Under careful scrutiny

ALL Menomononie Middle School eighth Grade science students recently took part in a science field trip to Jarrett Creek. Seen here, Halle Buhr (left) and Emma Hastings collect and identify aquatic invertebrates in an attempt to determine stream health. The classes collected water samples, conducted a biotic survey and ran chemical tests on phosphorus, ammonia, chlorine, pH, dissolved oxygen, measured turbidity and stream flow. The students are involved in a multiple year scientific study of the stream to determine if a small tributary like Jarrett Creek contributes excessive nutrients and pollutants to the Red Cedar Watershed. They will present their 2017 data at the Red Cedar Watershed Conference in March.
