The first month of 2018 has been filled with “he said, she said, they did” regarding events at Mabel Tainter: Nine opinions and one article in The Dunn County News. One letter was ours, proposing a public meeting for disclosure and accountability.

That’s still on the table. Let us now add this idea.

The MTCA board should find and contract with an organizational development professional to conduct an assessment of the Mabel's nonprofit (board structure and policies) and evaluate the handling of referenced events — 12/9/17 arrest; director’s response and communications;12/19/17 firing of the director, human resource management, et al).

The consultant would need to have expertise in HR, come from outside the Mabel’s “catchment area” and have no conflict of interest (knowledge of community theater management would be a plus).

This proposed review would benefit the board through recommendations for updating and strengthening policies and procedures. It would benefit the community by giving us a “best-practice” based report of events and justifications (with due confidentiality as to details). Likely there are OD practitioners in Menomonie (UW-Stout?) who could help draft a Request for Consultant Proposal.

Can MTCA afford the cost? Can it afford not to do this? Could the city help with cost or process? If needed, people like us could “crowd fund” it.
