Blue Devil women's soccer team captains selected

Defenders Jessica Ingle and Taylor Poss, along with forward Sydney Kasper, have been selected UW-Stout soccer team captains for the 2017 season.

The Blue Devils open the 2017 season when they travel to Baltimore, Md., to participate in the Johns Hopkins Tournament, taking on the host Blue Jays in the season-opener, Saturday, Sept. 2, and Mount St. Mary College of New York, Sunday, Sept. 3.

Johns Hopkins finished last season ranked 10th in the Top 25 poll. Johns Hopkins finished the 2016 season at 17-3-2, winning the Centennial Conference tournament title and advancing to the third round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Mount Saint Mary closed the 2016 season at 9-9 overall and 7-2 in league play, advancing to the Skyline Conference Championship final for the seventh straight season.

The Blue Devils will open the home portion of their schedule Friday, Sept. 8 when they host Carleton College at 5 p.m. at Nelson Field.

Four captains to head Blue Devil football team

The captains for the 2017 UW-Stout football team will have a defensive look.

Defensive lineman Troy Rudesill (Spring Valley), linebacker Nick Schulenburg (Fort Atkinson), linebacker Jared Allen (Maple Grove, Minn) and punter Clark Riedel (Waukesha) will serve as team captains for the upcoming season. All four will be seniors for the 2017 season.

The team is scheduled to report for preseason camp Friday, Aug. 11.

The Blue Devils open the 2017 season by traveling to Simpson College, Saturday, Sept. 2. The Blue Devils open the home portion of the schedule Saturday, Sept. 9 when they host fifth ranked St. Thomas. Homecoming is Saturday, Oct. 14 as Stout hosts nearby rival UW-River Falls.
