Winning Hallie Optimist Club essay chosen

A 16-year-old homeschooled student from Eau Claire has won the Hallie Optimist Club’s 2018 essay contest.

Regina Gravrok won with an essay based on the contest’s simple theme: “Can society function without respect?”

Gravrok was awarded a $150 scholarship. Her essay will also go to the district level and will be judged alongside winners of other Optimist Club contests in the district.

A $2,500 college scholarship will be awarded to the district-level winner.

“Gravrok did a wonderful job of articulating this year’s theme. She expressed herself well through the essay and deserved the honor of first place,” said Hallie Optimist Club president Jim MacDonald.
