Car fire causes traffic jam on Highway 29 in Lake Hallie

A vehicle on fire on Highway 29 caused severe traffic backups on westbound traffic Wednesday morning in Lake Hallie.

A car fire reported around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday is resulting in a rush-hour traffic snarl on Highway 29, just east of the Highway 53 interchange in Lake Hallie.

The vehicle was fully on fire on westbound Highway 29 in Chippewa County, near 40th Avenue and mile marker 77.

Traffic was initially stopped on both westbound lanes, resulting in an extremely long backup of vehicles on Highway 29. As of 8:05 a.m., one lane had been opened, and traffic was beginning to get past the scene.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department and the Chippewa Fire District are on the scene of the fire.
