An Eau Claire man will serve one year in jail after pleading no contest to sexually assaulting a woman in Chippewa Falls in October 2017, according to online court records.
Judge Steven R. Cray sentenced Michael J. Pickerign, 38, of 510 Platt St., Monday.
Pickerign faced two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault, both misdemeanors.
District Attorney Wade Newell’s office originally filed counts of third-degree and second-degree sexual assault against Pickerign, according to court records.
Pickerign must also pay $886 in court costs. A June 19 jury trial for the case was cancelled.
According to a criminal complaint:
A woman said Pickerign went into a bedroom about 3 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2017 and had non-consensual sexual intercourse with her, and again on Nov. 1.
A motion filed by District Attorney Wade Newell said a Chippewa Falls police investigator reviewed different phone calls made by Pickerign from the Chippewa County Jail to the woman.
“(The investigator) stated during those phone calls that the defendant put a lot of pressure on (the woman) to drop the sexual assault charges against him,” the motion said.
