Adeline Julia Moody, 99, of Chippewa Falls died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Grace Woodlands Assisted Care Living in Eau Claire, Wis.

She was born in 1919, the daughter of Frances (Fell) and Sylvester Wittmann.

Adeline grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1937. Shortly after beginning nurse’s training in Wausau, Wis., Adeline’s mother died. She was called home to care for her three younger brothers. In 1939, she married Vayne Moody, the “boy next door.” She and Vayne resided in Eau Claire until 1955, when they moved to Chippewa Falls. They later moved to Lake Wissota. During this time in her life, Adeline was employed at the Northern Center, a job she dearly loved.

Adeline and Vayne were among the charter members of St. James the Greater Church Parish in Eau Claire. She had fond memories of attending Mass in the little house, which also served as the rectory. She was very active in church activities. After moving to Chippewa Falls, Adeline and Vayne became long-time members of Notre Dame Parish.

Adeline loved to garden, fish, golf and play cards. She especially enjoyed living at the lake and was known as the flower lady of Sundet Lane.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn (James) Lockbaum of Chippewa Falls; brother, Eugene (Irene) Wittmann of Eau Claire; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Vayne; her son, Dale; her parents; sisters, Irene Johnson and Evelyn Pharr; and brothers, Russell and Archie Wittmann.
