BETHEL PARK, Pa. -- Rev. John S. Rondeau, C.S.Sp. of Bethel Park, Pa., a member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, died Thursday, April 8, 2004.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1911, in Chippewa Falls. He made his vows in Ridgefield, Conn., and was ordained to the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary, Norwalk, Conn., on Sept. 15, 1938.
He was first appointed to Sacred Heart Parish, Lake Charles, La. (1939). In 1940, he was assigned to teach at St. Alexander College, Quebec, Canada until he was transferred to the missions of Puerto Rico at Arecibo and Hato Rey (1941-50). He returned to the mainland and served at St. Augustine, Isle Brevelle, La., 1950-53; Holy Ghost, Tiverton, R.I. 1953-58; St. Joseph, Hartsville, S.C. 1958-59 and St. Anthony's, Natchitoches, La., where he served as Pastor until 1961. Other assignments found him back again at Holy Ghost, R.I. 1961-67; Pastor of St. Catherine, Little Compton, R.I. 1967-73; St. Joseph, Bay City, Mich. 1974-75; Our Lady of Guadalupe, Newton Grove, N.C. 1975-1978 and St. Stanislaus, Pittsburgh, Pa. 1978-91. He has been in retirement at Libermann Hall in Bethel Park since 1991.
He is survived by: a sister, Evelyn Weismann of Milwaukee.
Father Rondeau was preceded in death by: his parents, Wilfred and Theresa (Deigl) Rondeau; and his sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Marianne Strong.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday at St. Mary Cemetery, O'Hara Township, Pittsburgh, Pa.
