2017 Oktoberfest logo

Musician Crazy George, otherwise known as George Schiltz, performs last year during the unveiling of the 2017 Oktoberfest logo, which bears his likeness.

The Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce has rolled out the annual logo design contest for Oktoberfest 2018.

The deadline for entries is Friday, Feb. 9. According to the event’s website, logo designs must include the following:

  • 6-inch circle design
  • “Oktoberfest Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin” banner in any color
  • The words “16th Annual”
  • Festival dates: “September 14-16, 2018”
  • Maple or oak leaf
  • Bavarian checkered print

Designs can be submitted in PDF format to ofest@chippewachamber.org or mailed or dropped off at the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce, 1 N. Bridge St.

The winning design will be featured in event marketing in 2018, and its designer will receive a $150 cash prize and two three-day admission passes to the event. For a complete list of contest requirements, visit www.oktoberfestcf.com or contact the Chippewa Falls Chamber office at 715-723-0331.

Last year’s winning logo, designed by Tom Cushman, featured “Crazy George” Schiltz, a longtime Oktoberfest entertainer famous for serenading attendees with an accordion.

Oktoberfest 2018 in Chippewa Falls will be held Sept. 14-16 at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds, and typically features live music, stein-holding contests, beer, children’s activities, and German food and desserts. It will be the 16th annual Oktoberfest for the city.

I wonder what the final signs will look like when the competition closes! I know that it will be a very exciting thing to see a design that you created flying on a banner of the whole Oktoberfest event though! Perhaps I should encourage some of my colleagues and friends in the advertising business to give the competition a shot...
