"If you need real evidence of the cynical priorities of my colleagues, look no further than the attempt to muddy up the waters on what should be bipartisan proposals that passed the Senate regarding rape kit testing," Minority Leader Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) said about Assembly Bill 844 at the Assembly Democrats' news conference previewing the floor session. The omnibus bills includes the popular Assembly Bill 214, which addresses issues with processing sexual assault kits, along with a sexual assault victim bill of rights, sexual assault data tracking, and provisions directed towards illegal immigrants reporting sexual assault and parental choice programs exception for victims of sexual assault. "I don't think that those [provisions] are anything that shouldn't get the support of everybody," Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) said at the Assembly Republicans' news conference. Speaker Vos commented that the bill is getting clouded by ideologies rather than the reality of how the bill would be used.
