WisconsinEye interviewed both Democratic Party of Wisconsin chair candidates, Representative David Bowen (D-Milwaukee) and Ben Wikler. Rep. Bowen has served in the Wisconsin State Assembly for four years and was vice-chair of the DPW alongside former chair Martha Laning. Wikler has worked with national political figures like Al Franken, Sherrod Brown and was senior advisor at MoveOn.org in Washington, D.C. During their interviews, WisconsinEye asked Rep. Bowen, what's at stake in the 2020 and 2022 elections. "What's at stake is the fact that we know that for the past almost decade, Republicans bought control in this state...Donald Trump is a symptom, he is not the root...We want to focus on 2022, but we also know building for 2022 starts with 2020." And Wikler responded to our question of why he is focusing now on state party chairman after playing on such a national level. "My first thought was to get involved in the fight for Medicaid expansion, and then Martha Laning decided not to run for reelection, and that made me think, things that I've done at MoveOn...really maps on to the state party chair's job."
