On August 20, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee held a public hearing on Audit Report 19-6 on the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. Committee member Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) highlighted how this is the fourth audit on WEDC and asked what they should look at going forward considering that the Legislative Audit Bureau has identified "significant compliance progress." Joe Chrisman, director of LAB, emphasized following the recommendations provided in the report as well as promoting a timely annual sample verification, improving the quality of awards information that WEDC provides, insuring compliance with requirements for awarding program tax credits for jobs filled only by individuals performing jobs in Wisconsin, and enforcing the contracts as written when deciding to close the awards.
