"The new initiative addresses the growing violent crime problem and establishes a new level of accountability in the criminal justice system as a whole," said Representative Joe Sanfelippo (R-New Berlin) at the recent "Tougher on Crime" news conference. This is the beginning of a series of bills to address transparency of the criminal justice system and in the courts, signature bail reform, oversight of the correction system, protections for crime victims and witnesses, irresponsible and reckless drivers, and consequences for violent and repeat criminals. Rep. Sanfelippo cited that FBI data from 2008 to 2017 shows that crime increased in all but two cities in Wisconsin, and for the 10 largest cities in the state, there was a 24 percent increase in violent crime while the national average has gone down by 14 percent.
