Chi-Hi Track at Big Rivers Conference Meet at Eau Claire North

Ritchie Stafford (left) and Nathan Sylte (right) are neck-and-neck in the 100-meter hurdles on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Eau Claire North.

CHETEK — Both Nick Schumacher and Steve Krueger knew their track teams had their work cut out for them.

But both the Bloomer boys and girls track and field teams were up to the task. Again.

The Blackhawks pulled off a sweep of the Heart O’North Conference on Tuesday, taking first in both the boys and girls at the meet.

It was the third year in a row that Bloomer took both titles.

Ali Olson, Jayla Thompson and the 4X400-meter relay teams scored victories for the Bloomer girls, but the lady Blackhawks made up most of their scoring due to their depth.

“All we had to do was be consistent and (have) nobody have mistakes and we came through in the second half of the meet when our depth showed up and I’m very proud of the girls,” Krueger said of his girls team.

Bloomer scored points in every event, including a 1-2 sweep in the triple jump with Thompson and Kayla Ruff.

Chloe Zeman took first in the discus throw.

Bloomer finished 9.5 points ahead of Northwestern for first place.

The Bloomer boys were led by Levi Nayes, who grabbed first place finishes in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes. John Vodacek also grabbed wins in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs and the 4X400-meter relay took home the top spot for the Blackhawks.

“I was very proud of our guys,” Schumacher said of his boys team. “They performed well. If you look at some of the seed times coming into the meet and we knew that Northwestern was going to be our biggest competition. We needed some guys to step up and they did.”

Bloomer finished with 157.5 points. Northwestern was second with 130.
