BRUCE — Last year the Cornell/Lake Holcombe boys track team won a Lakeland Conference title.

They did it again this year, but they weren’t alone.

The Cornell/Lake Holcombe track program swept both team titles at Tuesday’s Lakeland Conference meet in Bruce, winning boys and girls team championships.

The boys won their second straight conference meet after scoring 147 points, 15 better than Cameron. The girls won with a total score of 182.5, 10.5 points ahead of Flambeau.

Jesse Knitter and Thomas Sippy each had first place finishes for the C/LH boys. Knitter grabbed the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.87 seconds. Sippy was first in the 1,600-meter run, timing in at 5:04.01. Knitter was also second in the long jump and third in the 110-meter hurdles. Sippy was second in the 3,200-meter run and third in the 800-meter run.

Eric Nedland took second place just ahead of Knitter in the 110-meter hurdles. Travis Anderson grabbed four third place finishes (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, long jump and triple jump) as did the 400-meter relay team of Cortland Spletter, Elliot Sproul, Tristan Johnson and Alec Hurlburt as well as the 1,600-meter relay team of Spletter, Preston Strzok, Hurlburt and Sproul.

Sara Stender grabbed first-place finishes for the girls in the long jump  with a jump of 14-feet, 6.5-inches and triple jump with a leap of 31-feet, 5-inches.

The Cornell/Lake Holcombe ladies also had runner-up finishes by Danielle Gygi (300-meter hurdles, high jump), Lexi Mousette (1,600-meter run) and Gretchen Schroeder (pole vault) as well as with the 3,200-meter relay team of Thia Moreen, Lucy Sikora, Matilda Staal and Anna Burlingame and the 800-meter relay unit of Katie Ruhde, Stender, Jordan Geist and Schroeder.

Hannah Ash had three third-place finishes as did Kaitlin Peterson. Mousette was third in two events and Kayla Vavra took third in the triple jump. Also third were the 400-meter relay team of Burlingame, Stender, Schroeder and Geist as well as the 1,600-meter relay unit of Moreen, Schroeder, Matilda Staal and Elizabeth Sproul.

The New Auburn boys took fifth place with 88.5 points and the girls were sixth with 26.5 points. The 3,200-meter relay team of Kylee Lofthus, Nicole Buss, Alysha Butterfield and Miranda Boelkes led the girls with a third-place finish. Boelkes also took fourth individually in the 400-meter dash.

The Trojans boys had a pair of first place finishers with Sean Rae in the 800-meter run and Jesse Sweeter in the 200-meter dash as well as two top finishes in relay races as the 3,200-meter relay team of Alex Vaughn, Blake Miller, Sweeter and Rae was victorious along with the 1,600-meter relay unit with Vaughn, Cody Baldry, Rae and Sweeter.

Cornell/Lake Holcombe and New Auburn are both back in action on Monday. Cornell/Lake Holcombe heads to Gilman for a WIAA Division 3 regional meet, while New Auburn heads to Webster for its regional.

DIVISION 1

Chi-Hi’s Loiselle breaks 400-meter school record at Big Rivers Conference meet

At Hudson, Chi-Hi’s Tyana Loiselle broke a school record to help the Cardinals girls take third at the Big Rivers Conference meet.

Loiselle finished the 400-meter dash in 59.44 seconds, the second school record shattered by the Chi-Hi girls track team this year. Earlier this year, the team broke the 1,600-meter relay mark.

As a team the Chi-Hi girls finished in third place with 120 points. The boys took fifth with 55 points.

“They did really well,” Chi-Hi coach Mike Bestul said. “We had a few girls not be able to compete tonight so those that competed did awesome and the guys did well.”

Apart from her finish in the 400-meter dash, Loiselle also took second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash.

Elli Daniels took second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash.

Kristen Nowak took second in the high jump was also a part of the 3,200-meter relay team consisting of her, Stephanie Sawicki, Courtney Passint and Becca Zugier that took second.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Nowak, Sawicki, Kathryn Webb and Janna Fjelstad also took second. The 800-meter relay team of Katie Passint, Brooklyn Dresel, Sydney Schneider and Webb took third.

Webb took third in the 800-meter run, Passint took third in the triple jump and Dresel took third in the high jump. Passint also took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, while Fjelstad took fourth in the long jump and triple jump.

River Falls won the girls team title with a score of 138 points.

On the boys side, Kolton Hebbring led the way for Chi-Hi, winning the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.86 seconds.

Apart from Hebbring, Cooper Barth took second in the 400-meter dash, while the 3,200-meter relay team of Parker Lehmann, Devin Bathke, Brett Olson and Sabyn Warrick took third. Dylan Clark took fourth in the pole vault.

River Falls won the boys meet as well with a score of 159 points.

Chi-Hi is off until Monday when it heads to New Richmond for a WIAA Division 1 regional meet.

DIVISION 3

Distance runners fare well for McDonell at Western Cloverbelt meet

At Osseo, the McDonell boys distance runners were frequently found at the front of the pack at the Western Cloverbelt Conference meet.

McDonell boys runners grabbed 1-2 finishes in the 800-meter run (Sam Bleskachek and Grant Pulver), 1,600-meter run (Nick Zander and Pulver) and the 3,200-meter run (Zander and Pulver). In addition, the McDonell 3,200-meter relay team of Bleskachek, John Polus, Ben Ruf and Zach Ruf also finished in first place. For the girls, Lexi Raihle was third place in the 3,200-meter run.

Cadott took home three first-place finishes as well as Lauren Manier (100-meter hurdles), Lexi Siverling (high jump) and the girls 1,600-meter relay team of Manier, Tori Rykal, Kayla Dubiel and Elizabeth Kyes were victorious. Manier took second place in the 300-meter hurdles, as did Amanda Bremness in the pole vault. Rykal was third in the 200-meter dash and the triple jump. The Cadott boys were led by second-place finishes from Ben Kyes (110-meter hurdles), Dylan Rothbauer (200-meter dash) and Brandon Peterlik (long jump).

Stanley-Boyd had a pair of athletes grab first-place finishes with Peyton McCauley winning the 300-meter hurdles and Deontae Heuer winning the pole vault. Amy Plechacek was second in the discus and shot put, as was the girls 3,200-meter relay team of Brooke Carrigan, Ashley Lewallen, Rita Post and Paige Arnold, Dusty Spaeth in the 100-meter dash, Shantell Hartzell in the 100-meter hurdles, the boys 400-meter relay unit of Ronnie Ponick, Zach Turner, Heuer and Spaeth and Stephanie Szymanski in the triple jump.

Team results were not available.

McDonell, Cadott and Stanley-Boyd are back in action at regionals on Monday when McDonell heads to Boyceville, Cadott is at Gilman and Stanley-Boyd travels to Rice Lake.
