Fresh-baked success: Muffin MAYnia in action
Students across Wisconsin celebrated Muffin MAYnia with delicious scratch-made muffins featuring local ingredients and creative recipes.
At the Sturgeon Bay School District, students enjoyed homemade pumpkin chocolate chip muffins made with locally sourced eggs from Waseda Farms in Bailey's Harbor. The muffins were prepared with support from a culinary intern in the School Nutrition Culinary Innovators of Tomorrow program, which provides hands-on experience in school nutrition while helping develop the next generation of school food professionals.

Manitowoc Public School District celebrated Muffin MAYnia with a special feature at Lincoln High School. Students enjoyed a mocha muffin paired with a strawberry pineapple smoothie.
Medford Area School District nutrition staff created a "Berry MAYnia Muffin" featuring strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. With locally purchased berries and strong student enthusiasm, every muffin was gone by the end of service.

Celebrating Wisconsin School Garden Day in Tomah
In celebration of Wisconsin School Garden Day on May 21, Tomah Area School District welcomed visitors for a tour of its raised-bed gardens, hydroponic growing systems, and greenhouse.
Jesse Bender, the district’s food service director, is committed to incorporating as many school-grown ingredients as possible into student meals. Among the district's growing initiatives are four hydroponic towers that produce a substantial amount of fresh lettuce for school lunches throughout the year.
The event showcased the district's dedication to connecting students with local food production while supporting fresh, healthy meals.

School may be out, but the Farm to School program reminds you that you can stay involved. Join the Wisconsin Cucumber Crunch, a way to celebrate local foods and the flavors of the season. Choose any date this summer to gather staff and students for a shared crunch into locally grown cucumbers. If cucumbers are not available during your program, swap in another locally grown, in-season fruit or vegetable.
