WIS 35 and WIS 54 resurfacing projects in Buffalo County
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $6.41 million contract with prime contractor Mathy Construction Co. of Onalaska for resurfacing projects on WIS 35 from Indian Creek Road to Old WIS 35 in Fountain City and WIS 54 from the Minnesota state line to WIS 35 northeast of Winona, all in Buffalo County. Construction is scheduled to start Thursday, April 23.
The pavement on both highways is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project includes the following on:
WIS 35
Milling and overlaying the asphaltic pavement
Repairing or replacing culverts to address deterioration
Adjusting, repairing or replacing guardrail
Improving drainage along WIS 35 just west of Lovers Lane
Upgrading curb ramps to meet Americans With Disabilities Act standards
Initially, no traffic impacts are anticipated as the contractor plans to start work in Fountain City working on sidewalks and curb ramps. Once paving begins in May, motorists will encounter lane closures on both projects during work hours. Both highways will be reopened to two lanes of traffic during nonworking hours.
Construction is scheduled for completion in early July.
